On Friday night, New Hampshire Democrats gathered in Manchester for the annual 100 Club Dinner. The event provided a chance for Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton to make closing arguments ahead of next the Primary next Tuesday.
Friday night’s Mcintyre-Shaheen 100 Club Dinner was a who’s who of prominent Democrats, both local and national. Among the speakers were National Democratic Party Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Congresswoman Ann Kuster, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Governor Maggie Hassan, and of course Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.
Supporters of the two presidential candidates were seated in opposites ends of the Verizon Wireless arena. And the two sides occasionally engaged in competing chants for their respective candidates. When Congresswoman Kuster said she supports Clinton for president, she had to explain why over cheers of approval and shouts of "Bernie".
When Sanders took the stage, he told the audience his record on issues like trade agreements, same-sex marriage, and the Iraq War have all been on the right side of history.
“Leadership is about standing up and being counted when the times are rough," said Sanders, "even when you are in a minority situation.”
Hillary Clinton, for her part, told the crowd that her experience, particularly on foreign policy, makes her the better choice. And she also addressed the younger voters that were present, many of whom support Sanders.
“I want you to know that I am truly glad that you are involved in this process and in the Democratic Party," said Clinton. "You are bringing energy, ideas, and urgency to our shared causes.”
Both candidates will continue campaigning in New Hampshire over the weekend.
