Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum made his first visit to New Hampshire this afternoon since announcing his candidacy nearly two months ago.
Santorum focused on international issues and immigration before a crowd of about 50 at New England College’s Concord office. He detailed his opposition to both the Iran nuclear deal and renewed relations with Cuba. Then he dug into immigration reform; specifically eliminating the visa lottery and family sponsoring, which he called “chain,” migration.
“My feeling is, citizenship should be earned, not won, and that the idea that we need more diversity in this country is something that I don’t think too many people buy into right now, I think we’re a fairly diverse country right now, and the idea that we have to bring people from third world countries, many of whom have no idea of the values of this country, and in fact have values antithetical to this country, is not necessarily a good thing for our country.”
Santorum has up to this point been concentrating his efforts on more socially conservative early primary states like Iowa and South Carolina. He also has plants to visit Weare Town Hall and speak at the New Hampshire National Security Action Summit in Bedford.
