A plan to open the New Hampshire State House to the public on weekends has the green light from a key Senate committee.
The plan calls for the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce to begin a program next summer to keep the State House open for guided tours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday between Memorial Day and Columbus Day.
The chamber would raise money to operate the program, leaving no costs to the state. The plans calls for the chamber and the state to enter into a memorandum of understanding that lays out plans for security, volunteer staffing and signage to direct visitors to the State House.
The Senate Finance Committee unanimously voted to attach the plan as an amendment to the budget.
