A 34-year-old man from North Conway participating in a charity fundraiser was killed Monday at the Wildcat Mountain ski area, according to a news release from Troop F of the state police.

Samuel Moore lost control in the 5-Corners area “tumbled down the trail and then fell over a 60-foot drop,” Troop F said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was participating in the 12th annual 100,000 foot vertical challenge for Make-A-Wish New Hampshire.

The event is described as not being a race but challenging “skiers/riders to log a total of 48 runs (maximum 50) on the Lynx Trail to achieve 100,000 vertical feet over the course of the day, non-stop.”

On Moore's Facebook page on March 7th he thanked his supporters saying "You donated a grand total of $310 that will help make a child's wish come true. Thanks for the support and wish me luck on the 50 runs top to bottom on Monday. 100,000 vertical for a great cause!"

His Facebook page also showed he celebrated "Gentle Thanksgiving" with  vegan gnocchi and was concerned about animal rights.

He worked at Ceramco Inc. in Center Conway.

Wildcat general manager Brian Heon described the accident as “a tragedy to what is traditionally a fun and self-fulfilling challenge for participants and a major fundraising event.”

A spokesman for the ski area said there has never been an accident before related to the fundraiser.
