Smuttynose Brewery Bought by North Hampton Investment Firm

Chelsey Puffer

After a week of uncertainty following a public auction of the Smuttynose Brewery, a new owner has been announced. Smuttynose is now owned by Runnymede Investments, a venture capital and investment firm based in North Hampton. The purchase was made for an undisclosed amount.

Runnymede is installing a new CEO at the brewery, Rich Lindsay, who has experience at other breweries including Samuel Adams and Night Shift Brewing.

In a statement, Lindsay says the company will be hiring new marketing staff and investing in a new canning line to stay competitive in the beer market.

Former owners Peter Egelston and Joanne Francis say they are pleased that the deal is with local investors who will continue the Smuttynose brand.

It’s unclear what role Egelston and Francis will have in the company moving forward.

The brewery will continue to operate through the transition.
