St. Paul's School Graduate To Stand Trial In Rape Case

Eddie Cheuk

The lawyer for a New Hampshire prep school graduate accused of sexually assaulting a freshman last year says they plan to go to trial.

The Concord Monitor reports 19-year-old Owen Labrie, of Tunbridge, Vermont, is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Friday in Merrimack County Superior Court.

It's his last chance to strike a plea bargain with prosecutors.

Authorities say the St. Paul's School graduate sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl on campus two days before he graduated in May 2014. They say it was part of a student tradition in which seniors try to have sex with younger students.

He's charged with aggravated felonious sexual assault.

His lawyer, J.W. Carney, known for defending mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger, says he expects the case will be resolved by a jury.
