State Chooses Three Companies To Open Four Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

The state has announced which companies will be allowed to move forward with plans to open a medical marijuana dispensary.

After reviewing applications from 14 companies, the Department of Health and Human Services is letting three move forward with a total of four dispensaries.

Now each company needs to find a location within one of four geographic areas, and then respond to any local concerns. If the companies get this done by August 27, they’ll then have to pass a state inspection.

These will be the first dispensaries to open under a 2013 law that legalized medical marijuana.

The department predicts medical marijuana dispensaries will be open in 8 to 9 months. It also says eligible patients will be able to get ID cards six weeks prior to the dispensaries opening.
