Strikers Reject FairPoint Offer To Return To Work

Striking workers say they're not interested in an invitation by FairPoint to return to work in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

The telecommunications company sent a letter last week to more than 1,700 striking workers explaining its position that the old contract was out of sync with the industry and telling workers that they're welcome to return under terms imposed by the company.

In Portland, President Diane Winton from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2327 said the letter suggests the company's contractors hired during the strike "can't get it done."

Mike Reed, FairPoint president in Maine, said the letters were sent to combat misinformation. He says there's no lockout and workers can contact their supervisor if they want to return to work.
