Tucker Suspends Campaign for N.H.'s First Congressional District

The previously crowded Republican primary for New Hampshire's First Congressional District shrunk yet again on Monday, as State Rep. Pam Tucker announced plans to suspend her campaign.

In a statement issued this afternoon, Tucker cited family considerations as a factor in her decision.

"I am so grateful to the many friends and supporters who have sacrificed so much for this campaign," Tucker's statement read, in part. "But with a young family and three daughters, it has become increasingly clear in recent days that now is not the right time for a congressional campaign."

Tucker, who lives in Greenland, previously served as co-chair of the House Republican Alliance and as Deputy Speaker of the House under Bill O’Brien.

Her exit from the race leaves incumbent U.S. Frank Guinta and Rich Ashooh, a former BAE Systems executive from Bedford, as the most prominent candidates vying in the Republican primary.

Ashooh previously challenged Guinta for the same seat in 2010. That time around, Ashooh finished a narrow third in the primary.

Former UNH Business School Dean Dan Innis, who challenged Guinta in 2014, also sought out the seat again —but he ended up suspending his campaign in March.
