Last week on All Things Considered we talked with Jason Claffey of Exeter Patch about a community effort – a successful one - to save the Exeter UFO Festival from cancellation.
During the interview we talked about a reported UFO encounter by New Hampshire residents Betty and Barney Hill as the reason why the state plays host to a UFO festival.
That prompted Ryan Mullahy to get in touch. He’s an advisor to the UFO festival, and manages its Facebook page, and he told me that there’s a much more direct connection between Exeter and UFOs than the Hills.
“The Exeter UFO Festival is basically based on an event that happened on September 3rd, 1965 in Exeter, where two police officers and a young man had an encounter with a UFO right outside Exeter. And it’s regarded as one of the most credible UFO cases in US history…. It does also celebrate other UFO events that have happened in the state like the Betty and Barney Hill thing, but the focus is on Exeter and that event, which is called The Incident At Exeter.“
In the audio below, Ryan Mullahy explains more about the "Incident at Exeter":
