New Hampshire US Senator Kelly Ayotte is using this week's Republican response to President Obama to highlight the opioid crisis.
Ayotte lauded the Senate for taking up a bill she supports known as the Comprehensive Recovery and Addiction Act, or CARA.
"CARA," she said, "will provide additional support to first responders and law enforcement—like expanding availability of the life-saving overdose reversal tool, Narcan. It will strengthen prescription drug monitoring programs to help prevent ‘doctor shopping’ and expand drug take-back sites to promote safe disposal of unused or unwanted prescription medications."
The measure would also provide federal resources for anti-drug programs in schools.
New Hampshire's Democratic US Senator, Jeanne Shaheen, is another co-sponsor.
