What Will Robots Mean For Jobs?

A new Pew survey of technology and policy experts shows a range of opinions on how artificial intelligence and robots will impact employment.

As part of its 2014 Future of the Internet Study, Pew Research canvassed experts and analysts in technology and robotics, among other fields, and found that some project that in the next 10 years, robots will be taking part increasingly in our lives, from delivering pizza to reviewing X-rays, with profound impacts on employment in the U.S.

But other experts were unsure of how quickly robots would be able to become technically sophisticated and become integrated into Americans’ daily lives.

There was wide agreement on the idea that the American education system needs to be overhauled to meet the challenges of increasingly sophisticated robots.

Here & Now’s Robin Young and Jeremy Hobson discuss the possible future effects of robots on the American job market with The Atlantic’s Derek Thompson.
