Executive Council OKs Duncan Appointment To N.H. Board Of Education

In a party line, 3-2 vote, the Executive Council confirmed the appointment of education activist Bill Duncan to the state Board of Education this morning.

The pick drew the ire of charter school advocates and Republicans.

Much of the debate Thursday centered on Duncan’s role as the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging the state’s education tax credit program.

Republican Councilor Chris Sununu says that alone makes him a less than ideal choice.

Hassan Nominates Public School Activist To Board Of Education

  Gov. Maggie Hassan's nomination of longtime education activist Bill Duncan to the New Hampshire Board of Education is drawing fire from supporters of charter schools and an education tax credit law.

Senate Republican Leader Jeb Bradley says Monday that Duncan can't serve as an unbiased administrator of programs he spent years trying to dismantle. Duncan is the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging the business tax credit that gives scholarships to students who attend private and religious schools.
