Searching resumes this morning for a 32 year old woman who may have spent the night in deadly weather conditions between Mount Adams and Mount Madison.

Fish and Game Advanced Rescue and volunteers from Mountain Rescue Service searched the area last night after a missing hiker activated a personal locator beacon registered to Kate Matrosova of New York City.  But after searching through deep snow and scrub trees in an area identified as the probable last known location of the beacon, rescuers turned back.

A 39-year-old New Hampshire man who had been running and hiking with friends along the Appalachian Trail when he collapsed and died has been identified.

Chad Denning from New London had stopped breathing along the Beaver Brook Trail on Mt. Moosilauke in Benton after noon on Sunday. He had stopped to take in some views of the area after running and hiking for about four hours.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

House and Senate negotiators have reached a tentative agreement on a bill that creates a program to sell "hike safe" cards to hikers that would forgive them for any rescue expenses they'd otherwise owe New Hampshire if they were negligent.

The deal reached Friday still must be approved by the full House and Senate.

New Hampshire officials have identified the 60-year-old man who died Saturday while hiking in the White Mountains.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department says rescuers were called to the Ripley Falls Trail about 11 a.m. Saturday and found James Byrne of South Dennis, Mass., unresponsive about half a mile up the trail.

Officials say Byrne had been hiking with family and friends. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

An autopsy was to be conducted to determine the cause of death.
