N.H. Sens. Shaheen, Ayotte Travel The State

Both of N.H’s U.S. Senators  Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte were in the Granite State on Monday.

Senator Shaheen met with business leaders and advocates on Monday at Grappone Toyota in Bow to tour the only LEED certified car dealership in the state and support her energy efficiency legislation.

The so-called Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act introduced with Senator Rob Portman aims to establish a national energy strategy. The bill incentivizes the use of green technologies to businesses throughout the country.

On The Political Front For April 29

Senator Kelly Ayotte has been in the news for her opposition to expanded background checks for gun sales; the NH Senate set to vote on a number of bills this week, with a number of them expected not to pass; one bill that may find bipartisan support is the proposed freeze of the Voter ID law, which would mean that more stringent requirements set to go into effect in September would be put on hold.

New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen says she will support John Kerry for Secretary of State.

President Barack Obama is expected to tap the Massachusetts Senator to replace Hillary Clinton, who is stepping down.

In Hudson on Monday, Shaheen said Kerry is more than qualified for the job.

“I worked on his campaign to become president. I think he’s got a lot of experience internationally. I’ve served with him on the foreign relations committee for the last four years. I think he’d be terrific.”

Ayotte: North Country Should Have "The Voice" In Northern Pass

Senator Kelly Ayotte says he North Country should have a major voice in what happens with the Northern Pass hydro-electric project.

Ayotte spoke about the project while in Pittsburg in the North Country on Friday for a town meeting.

NHPR’s Chris Jensen was there.

Pretty much the first issue raised with Sen. Kelly Ayotte was the Northern Pass project which – if approved – would probably cross the border near here.

“It seems to me you all should have the voice in this.”

Ayotte: We Have Divided Government And Lots Of Challenges

Sen. Kelly Ayotte says she's optimistic that a deal can be reached to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff at the end of the year.  Ayotte held a town meeting in Pittsburg Friday and the major topic was the economy.

NHPR’s Chris Jensen was there.

Talking to about 150 people in the tiny Northern town, Kelly Ayotte said the Democrats and the Republicans got the country into the debt crisis together.

“It is going to take two parties to get us out of it. We have divided government in Washington and we've got a lot of challenges.”

Ayotte: John Kerry Has Experience To Be Secretary of State

During a visit to Pittsburg Friday for a town meeting, Sen. Kelly Ayotte said she thought fellow Senator John Kerry has the experience to be the next Secretary of State.

Earlier this week, U-N Ambassador Susan Rice withdrew her name from consideration after criticism over her response to the attack on the Libyan embassy. 

Ayotte had been highly critical of Rice.

Shaheen, Ayotte Proposals For Fiscal Cliff Deal Reflect National Partisan Debate

With a Jan. 1 deadline for the so-called fiscal cliff looming, New Hampshire’s senators are in the Granite State and discussing what needs to be done to reach a deal. 

At an event meant to celebrate New Hampshire’s all-female delegation last week, the most excited crowd reaction came when the discussion turned to dealing with the nation’s fiscal issues.

“The biggest issue for me is that we are 16 trillion in debt," Sen. Kelly Ayotte said during a celebration of the state's all-female delegation last week.
