Artists Put On A Professional Face At 3S Artspace

3S Artspace is a Portsmouth nonprofit working on renovating a large building into studio space for artists, a farm-to-table restaurant, performance space and a gallery. For Catherine Scala, finding studio space here gave her the boost to continue her career as an artist.

Live From Studio D: Red Heart The Ticker

Each month the husband and wife duo, Robin MacArthur and Tyler Gibbons, from Marlboro, Vermont write and record a song to be released on the day of the full moon. The beautifully layered, tunes have a backwoods feel are recorded in a barn, and sent out to subscribers. It’s an intimate and unique take on the ever growing DIY music scene.  They joined us in studio back in July to talk about their album and to play live in Studio D.

A Music Workshop With Vinx

Vinx has performed, recorded and toured as a singer and percussionist with Sting, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, and many others.  As far as we know,  he's the only R&B crooners of his caliber currently working and residing in the state of the New Hampshire.  This memorial day weekend he’ll be leading Soul Kitchen Volume 29 – that’s three days of collaborative jams and songwriting workshops hosted at Dreamsicle Arts and Entertainment Studios in Suncook Village.  But first, we invited Vinx to our Concord studio to tell us a little bit about the event, and maybe even give us a lesson or two.

Spotlight on Local Music

Making a living as a working musician has never been easy. Most work day jobs and feed their stage passions at night and on weekends, playing in the corners of smoky bars and dimly-lit restaurants. The dream for many weekend warriors is to play music full-time.  One New Hampshire musician that has made the leap is Plymouth’s Jim Tyrrell. Now he’s hoping to help other Granite State acts with a little promotion… by exposing them on a new local TV show as well as online.  He talked with NHPR's Rick Ganley about playing music, his new show and the New Hampshire music scene.
