NEA-NH president Scott McGilvary says after lengthy meetings with Maggie Hassan, and her democratic rival Jackie Cilley, the choice for NEA-NH's executive board was clear.

"It became very apparent that there was one candidate that can stand up for public education and bring us forward and that Maggie Hassan is our candidate."

Hassan, for her part  says improving public education at all levels is a top priority. She called it a thrill to win the NEA’s backing.

We launch our coverage of New Hampshire’s gubernatorial primaries with Democratic candidate Maggie Hassan. An Exeter business attorney, Hassan was elected to the state Senate in 2004 and served as Senate Majority Leader. We’ll talk with Hassan about her candidacy, including why she’s the only democrat in this race to take the pledge against broad-based taxes.

The three Democratic candidates for New Hampshire Governor – Jackie Cilley, Maggie Hassan, and Bill Kennedy – met at New England College for their first debate.

The three outlined their views on an income tax, which is seen as the most controversial difference between the three candidates.

House Speaker William O'Brien's bill to allow any employer with a religious objection to exclude contraception coverage from employee health plans draws fire from Democrats and leaves GOP Gubernatorial hopefuls leery.

Democrats’ problems with this bill are by far the more pronounced. Gubernatorial hopeful Jackie Cilley, for instance, has urged supporters to “take to the streets” over the issue. Fellow candidate Maggie Hassan, meanwhile, took to the statehouse for a morning press conference.
