It's spring picks week on Word of Mouth. The crew has scoured the airwaves and handpicked stories and interviews that will entertain, delight, and maybe even challenge you. Up first, a reporter takes an unflinching look at an uncomfortable topic: what is whiteness?

Then, a candid and compelling conversation with an ex-con who wants to have his swastika tattoo covered up.

Finally we head to The Magic Castle—a private club for magicians in Los Angeles—to find out what distinguishes a delightful trick from a dirty con.

Andrew Pinard’s website features video from the kinds of performances you might expect from a contemporary working magician: entertaining audiences at conventions, business meetings and a group of teens at a post-graduation party.

On Saturday, Andrew will take on another guise, and another century. He’ll be performing as the 19th century magician Jonathan Harrington at Canterbury Shaker Village, and he’s here to give us a preview, and a little bit of information on just who this Harrington is.

For the past 40 years, the Amazing James Randi has served as a crusader for skepticism and rational thinking. The magician-turned-professional-skeptic has squared off against alleged psychics and spirit healers, debunking their claims of supernatural powers. Recently, a documentary chronicling his life was successfully backed on Kickstarter. Documentary filmmaker Justin Weinstein is directing the film, and he joins us to talk about the project.
