Fresh off his hat trick in Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum campaigned in Texas on Wednesday, speaking to a group of pastors at Bella Donna Chapel in the town of McKinney.

Forty miles north of Dallas, where black prairie dirt meets the fresh poured concrete of suburbia, this is Rick Santorum country.

This used to be Texas Gov. Rick Perry country.

"My husband, about four months ago, he told me he was going to go meet Rick Santorum, presidential candidate, and I was like: 'No, his last name is Perry. Our governor's name is [Rick] Perry," joked host Donna Blackard, in introducing Santorum to the crowd. "I was like, 'Who's Rick Santorum?' "

In South Carolina, Perry Tries To Revive His Flagging Campaign

Originally published on Thu January 12, 2012 10:03 am

Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced his presidential campaign in South Carolina last August, but now his campaign may soon come to an end in the same state where it started. Ben Philpott of KUT News reports on Morning Edition that with the clock ticking down to the Jan. 21 primary, Perry is polling in single digits.

That means Perry has just over a week to convince South Carolinians to vote for him. Philpott spends some time on the campaign trail with Perry, reporting that those attending stops, like Lexington resident Glenn Gainey, know the deal.

"Today, I guess, with being down in the polls, he's got an uphill battle to fight," Gainey says.

Texas governor Rick Perry is stumping in the state today.  The Republican presidential hopeful urged workers at a manufacturing plant in Manchester to put pressure on congress to change.

Rick Perry has been targeting the Washington establishment in recent days.  He issued a plan to cut the salaries of senators and congressmen in half.  Asked how he would get congress to go along, he said the public would need to browbeat them into agreement.

Perry said the counties around DC are some of the wealthiest in the country.

“That’s because all those lobbyists, contractors and overpaid czars haven’t suffered one bit while you all have been fighting the fight out here with this recession that’s been going on.”

Perry Courts Social Conservatives

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry addressed hundreds of social conservatives in Manchester, Friday night. The Texas governor’s speech ranged well beyond social issues.

A huge crowd filled a ballroom at the annual meeting of Cornerstone, the state’s leading advocacy group against abortion and gay marriage.  If he’s to close the gap in the polls, Perry needs these voters and he made sure to connect with them with lines like this.

"Children need to be raised in a loving home by a mother and a father."

Saying that it "reorders the way they do business in Washington by reinventing the tax code and restoring our nation to fiscal health through balanced budgets and entitlement reform," Texas Gov. Rick Perry is this hour unveiling his "cut, balance and grow plan" on taxes.

In a speech he's giving in Greenville, S.C., (prepared text here), the Republican presidential contender is saying that "central to my plan is giving every American the option of throwing out the three million words of the current tax code, and the costs of complying with that code, in order to pay a 20 percent flat tax on their income."
