Kate McNally

Host, The Folk Show

Kate’s public radio career started at Keene State College as a volunteer DJ with the University’s student run station, WKNH, where she hosted a Sunday afternoon folk music program, Fiddlesticks for six years. In 1986 after graduating, Kate was offered a position with WKNE in Keene where she worked her way to become production coordinator, copywriter, full-time program director and morning drive personality for AM 1290. When WKNE-AM became an automated station, Kate moved on to work for WKXE and WRSI as well as nonprofit work. In 1995, Kate was asked to host The Folk Show on New Hampshire Public Radio. In addition to her studio work, Kate emcees festivals and concerts throughout the Northeast. Kate works full-time at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene as Coordinator of the Cheshire Coalition for Tobacco-Free Communities and teaches radio broadcasting at Keene State College as an adjunct faculty member of the Communications Department.

Alice’s Restaurant was published nearly 30 years ago, the iconic song that gave the album its name is about the goings on at a restaurant owned by Alice and Ray Brock. Around the corner from the restaurant was the Old Trinity Church, which they made into their home. Ten years ago, Kate McNally, host of NHPR’s Folk Show on Sunday nights, spoke with Arlo Guthrie at the Old Trinity Church in Great Barrington, Ma, now site of the Guthrie Center. This week we’ll listen back to her interview with the folk music icon.

Kate McNally

Meg Hutchinson stopped by to play some tunes from her latest album, Beyond That.

Since the release of her Red House Records debut Come Up Full in 2008, she has won high praise for her songwriting and has been featured on NPR Music and the syndicated show Mountain Stage. Publications like The Winnipeg Free Press have compared her songwriting with that of veterans Mary Chapin Carpenter and Joni Mitchell. Meg grew up in the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts.
