In Bedford, Jeb Bush Touts Experience, Jabs at Trump

Tim Staskiewicz for NHPR
Republican Jeb Bush campaigns in Bedford, New Hampshire, just days before New Hampshire's first in the nation primary.

Speaking in Bedford, New Hampshire Saturday morning, just days before the state’s first-in-the-nation primary election, Jeb Bush is presenting himself as the most-experienced candidate.

The former Florida governor says as president, he’d shrink the federal government. He singled out the Veterans Administration as one area of government in particular need of reform.

"There are shortages of doctors and nurses and clinicians, but the bureaucracy on top of those dedicated public servants make it harder and harder for veterans to get care," said Bush. "When I’m President of the United States, heads will roll if they do not reform internally at that department."

Bush took a few jabs at Republicans Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, at one point saying that Trump has been "beyond offensive" for disparaging a disabled journalist.

"The guy needs therapy," Bush said of Trump.

However, Bush but made no mention of Senator Marco Rubio. Rubio has emerged as leading establishment candidate after finishing third in Iowa.

Jeb Bush finished 6th in the Iowa caucuses earlier this month, behind Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, who has since dropped out of the race.

Bush and his six Republican rivals for the GOP nomination will appear in a debate tonight hosted by ABC.
