Now that state lawmakers have increased the speed limit on the northern stretch of I-93 to 70 miles per hour, a Manchester Republican wants to make that the limit on two other New Hampshire roadways.
A House committee is set to hear this week bills that would increase the speed limit on most of Interstate 89 and on Route 101 from Manchester to Hampton.
The bills’ sponsor Steve Vaillancourt also backed the move to increase the speed limit on I-93, arguing it was more in line with the actual speed at which drivers travel.
His bill relating to I-89 would increase the speed limit to 70 miles per hours from mile markers 5 to 55.
The same limit would apply for Route 101.
The new 70 miles per hour speed limit on the northern part of I-93 went into effect this year, the only exception being through Franconia Notch.
The two bills go before the House Transportation Committee on Tuesday.
