Communities Across N.H. Gather At Vigils for Charlottesville

Aug 14, 2017

People across New Hampshire gathered yesterday at vigils and other events to respond to the violence in Charlottesville this weekend. NHPR’s Casey McDermott attended an interfaith service in Concord last night, and she brings back this audio postcard.

The voices you hear in this story are, in order: Rabbi Robin Nafshi of Concord; Rt. Rev. Robert Hirschfeld, Bishop of New Hampshire’s Episcopal Diocese; Matthew Richards of Manchester; Niambi Mercado of Keene; Pastor Eric Jackson of Manchester; and Catherine Bailey of Manchester. Singing was led by Baptist minister Olga Tines.

Beyond Concord, other demonstrations were organized in Hanover, Portsmouth, Keene, Nashua and Exeter. See below for another view from the Concord event.
