Doctor at Hillsborough Jail Temporarily Prohibited from Practicing Medicine

A doctor who oversees the medical needs of over 200 jailed inmates in Hillsborough County has been barred from practicing at the facility for at least the next 120 days, after an emergency license suspension by the state’s Board of Medicine

The board claims Matthew Masewic failed to provide his patients at the Valley Street Jail in Manchester with adequate medical care. Its investigation argues that one individual’s heart and other medications were stopped, even after a trip to the ER and subsequent doctors’ orders.

The board says another person’s untreated ailments resulted in paraplegia.

And, the board says the jail withheld a pregnant woman’s medications for an infected cyst and disregarded her demands for medical attention. The infant was later stillborn.

Masewic's privileges at New Hampshire Hospital in Concord, where he also practices, are not affected by the board's emergency ruling.

The board has 120 days to revoke, reinstate, or continue the suspension of Masewic’s medical license.
