Gov. Hassan Signs $10.7B Two-Year State Budget Into Law

Office of Gov. Maggie Hassan

As expected, Governor Maggie Hassan signed the state's next two-year budget into law Friday.

The $10.7 billion budget goes into effect Monday and covers Fiscal Years 2014 and 2015.

Hassan said the budget reverses many of the deep cuts from the state's last budget and sets the foundation for the state's economic future.

While the budget does not include the casino revenue Hassan initially wanted, it restores cuts to higher education, funds the construction of a new women's prison, and increases funding for programs for the disabled and mentally ill.

The budget also establishes a commission to study possible Medicaid expansion and report back by Oct. 15.

Hassan praised lawmakers from both sides of the aisle for working toward a compromise on the spending plan.
