Grafton Will Still Host Circus Company After Deadly Tent Collapse

Chris Jensen for NHPR

An official in Grafton says the town still plans to host a touring circus Wednesday run by Walkers Brothers International.

That’s the same company that ran the circus in Lancaster Monday night, where a father and daughter were killed when a tent collapsed during a a severe thunderstorm.

At least 15 others were injured, and the state is investigating.

Ed Grinley is chairman of the Grafton budget committee.

He said what happened in Lancaster was a tragedy, but called it a freak accident.

"Being the sponsor, we always have that concern of people's safety," he said. "So we always double check what they already double checked. We've had them before and we've never had problems with them."

The company has canceled Tuesday night's show planned for Bradford, Vermont.
