Hassan To Celebrate Start Of Apple Season In Londonderry

NHPR / Michael Brindley

New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan plans to celebrate New England Apple Day this week by making the first pick of the season in Londonderry.

Hassan plans to visit Mack's Apples in Londonderry on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 2. Accompanying her will be Lorraine Merrill, commissioner of agriculture, and Jim Blair, president and CEO of the U.S. Apple Association.

Mack's Apples, also known as Moose Hill Orchards, has been owned and operated by the Mack Family since 1732 and has been producing and selling apples since the 1800's. The farm consists of 400 acres — with 100 acres dedicated solely to apples.

New England Apple Day was established as a way to remind people that harvest season has begun at their local apple orchards.
