Keene has joined a growing number of cities around the country committing to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.
Since President Donald Trump decided to pull the U.S. out of the global accord, several hundred mayors have signed on to a plan to stay in. The Keene City Council voted Thursday night to allow Mayor Kendall Lane to add Keene's name to that list.
"We've never had to look at so many things coming out of Washington that we potentially disagree with -- or out of Concord, for that matter," said Randy Filiault, city councilor at large, at the meeting. "I think that's going to be the norm for a while -- that local elected officials are going to have to step forward."
The city council also recently approved a new natural gas facility in town, which some argue is in conflict with these climate goals.
