Virgin Atlantic Will Allow Texting On Some Flights

DAVID GREENE, HOST:

And our last word in business: The passenger door is now closed. Please make sure all your electronic devices have been switched off.

If you're sick of those rules on planes - well, they may be changing a bit. The sky is no longer the limit for cellphone users. Virgin Atlantic has announced passengers on their new Airbus will soon be able to chat on their mobile phones. And yes, you will be able to also text.

The service is called Aero Mobile. Each plane will have its own cellular network that bounces signals to satellites. That in-house network will prevent signals from interfering with air traffic control. That was always the worry.

You should know, talk won't be cheap. Calls start around $1.30 a minute. So keep those calls short.

That's the business news on MORNING EDITION, from NPR News. I'm David Greene.
