New Hampshire's Executive Council has unanimously approved the appointment of a longtime government lawyer as acting commissioner of the Department of Health and Human Services.
The five-member council confirmed Jeffrey Meyers on Monday to serve as acting commissioner from Jan. 8 — outgoing Commissioner Nick Toumpas's last day — until Feb. 1. The council will hold a public hearing Jan. 20 to consider whether Meyers should remain in the position for the full four-year term.
Meyers, of Concord, is currently the department's director of intergovernmental affairs. He also has been a lobbyist for the Granite Healthcare Network, chief legal counsel to Gov. John Lynch, counsel for the state Senate and an assistant attorney general.
