New Hampshire Sinks To 2nd In Beer Consumption Ranking
A study released Tuesday by the Beer Institute showed the Granite State dropped to second in the nation in beer consumption per capita, after taking the top spot in 2011.
North Dakota took the top spot in 2012.
Montana, South Dakota and Wisconsin rounded out the top five, in that order.
While they didn’t rank first, New Hampshire beer drinkers were still pretty thirsty last year, drinking on average 43.9 gallons of beer. That’s actually up from 43 gallons the year before.
By comparison, Massachusetts drinkers only consumed 26.2 gallons of beer in 2012.
And North Dakota residents consumed an average of 45.8 gallons.
The study’s authors have said people crossing the New Hampshire border to purchase alcohol from neighboring states at a lower cost likely drives up the state’s numbers.
