N.H. Lawmakers Set Off For Summer After Passing New State Budget

Jun 22, 2017

New Hampshire’s 400 plus state lawmakers had their last session day Thursday and they had one major item left on the agenda to get through – passing the state’s next two-year budget.

Thursday’s session felt like the last day before school let out for summer. Many lawmakers were smiling, shaking hands and even signing each other’s session books…those are like the state’s political yearbooks.

Both chambers did end up passing the budget.

Republican House Speaker Shawn Jasper was pretty happy about that.

"This is a great win for the state of New Hampshire," Jasper said to loud applause. "This budget will do a lot of good things for the citizens.”

Not all are pleased with the outcome, but the session is wrapped up, and lawmakers are looking forward to a nice long break.
