A new exhibit at the Currier Museum of Art in New Hampshire features a rare impressionist painting.
Claude Monet was twenty-seven when he painted Adolphe Monet in the Garden of Le Coteau at Sainte Adresse, and he wasn’t an impressionist–yet. Kurt Sundstrom is Curator at the Currier Museum. He says the painting reveals the seeds of impressionism.
“He’s not interested in each flower and depicting each flower and the details of each. It’s this sort of visual feast for Monet.”
The exhibit marks only the second time the painting has been shown publicly in a museum. Sundstrom says the anonymous owner of the painting wanted a venue for the rare artwork to have an impact, even if for a limited time. The exhibit runs now through early July.
