The head of the state’s Department of Corrections is stepping down.
William Wrenn has served as Commissioner for 12 years. His resignation was approved Wednesday during an Executive Council meeting in Keene.
In his written resignation letter, Wrenn calls his three terms in the position challenging but rewarding, adding that he believes the department has grown positively during his tenure.
Recently, the department has made headlines for its continued staffing shortages, which have led to high overtime costs and a long delayed opening of the new women's prison in Concord.
His last day will be November 9th. The Governor and Executive Council will be responsible for nominating and selecting his replacement.
