We spoke with Phil Sands, Syria correspondent for The National, an English language daily newspaper based in Abu Dhabi. As far as we can tell, Phil is the only western journalists now living in and reporting from Syria; he was living there long before the uprising began in March of 2011. He’s been there reporting on and photographing the escalation of the rebellion and civil war, along with the bombings and massacres as well as the positioning of Assad loyalists and opposition.  He’s here in the U.S. on another assignment…puppy courier.
