A school district says its business administrator has resigned over an accounting error that kept millions of dollars from going toward property tax relief.
Goffstown and New Boston school officials in a press release said that an auditor found that since 2011 more than $10 million that could have been used to reduce property taxes was overlooked.
Goffstown officials are stressing that all funds have been accounted for and no money is missing. The school district hired an auditor that found unreserved fund balances at the end of several fiscal years weren't properly returned for tax relief.
School board members will now figure out how to manage the surplus money and make sure accounting and reporting practices are up to standards. The school business administrator apologized for the errors.
