State Rep. Mindi Messmer Announces Run for Congress

Democratic State Rep. Mindi Messmer has announced she’s running for Congress.

Messmer is a first-term legislator from Rye who has made a name for herself through her work on drinking water contamination in the state.

Messmer is a scientist who runs her own environmental consulting firm.

She says she wants to bring that scientific background to Washington to defend environmental regulations that are being rolled back by the Trump administration.

“I’ve decided to run because I think I can take up that fight on the federal level like I have here in New Hampshire, and use my logical reasoned approach to address these issues on the federal level.”

Messmer is the sixth Democrat to announce a run for the seat for the state's 1st Congressional District. On the Republican side, there are two declared candidates. Current Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter has said she won't run again.

I make documentary podcast series for NHPR's Document team. I’m interested in high-stakes mysteries involving everyday people. Many of my stories are about lawsuits or criminal cases. I work in audio documentary because I think it is the best way to respect people’s stories.
