Suspect In Lizzi Marriott Case To Be Arraigned In Dover
The suspect charged in the death of UNH student Lizzi Marriott will be arraigned in Dover District court Monday.
At a press conference Saturday afternoon, authorities revealed they had information confirming the 19-year-old's death, but that they have yet to recover her body.
"This is still an active and ongoing investigation. We are, at this point only 24 hours in and, as you are aware, the search for her was ongoing for a period of about two days or so. But now, obviously, that has changed."
29-year-old Seth Mazzaglia of Dover is currently in police custody and is being charged with second-degree murder.
According to Mazzaglia's personal website, he is a former UNH student who graduated in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in theater.
Mazzaglia and Marriott first met last summer at a Target store in Greenland, where the two worked. The extent of their relationship remains unclear.
On Saturday, UNH was celebrating its Homecoming, but word of Marriott's murder was just starting to spread among students.
"It's scary. You never expect that kind of thing to happen so close to you. It hits home really hard."
"And sad. We could have known her easily. It's sad."
Students Cody and Mary were following updates about Marriott over Twitter and Facebook. Others were notified by their parents via text message.
Julia Weiss, a current student, says she's still in shock.
"It's weird thinking that a town I consider so safe, like Dover or Durham, that stuff can happen like that here."
Saturday afternoon, Peirce Island in Portsmouth remained cordoned off while investigators searched for a body. Recovery efforts have since been halted, but are expected to resume Monday.
