A prominent white nationalist who was active in clashes in Charlottesville this weekend is a resident of Keene.
Christopher Cantwell hosts a live-streaming call-in show from a studio in town. He argues for a white state without blacks, Jews or immigrants of color.
He's been identified as an extremist by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups. Vice featured him in a documentary about events in Charlottesville this weekend that aired on HBO.
Cantwell now says he's concerned for his safety and property.
"I don't want people to know where my house is and slash my tires because they're a bunch of criminal degenerates or whatever."
He said he's not sure what his next move will be, but, given New Hampshire's demographics, it likely won't be a white supremacist demonstration here.
"I don't think I'd really be anxious to have an event in New Hampshire, frankly, because it's a white state," he said. "We don't have these problems."
He was scheduled to give a speech in Charlottesville this weekend but, with all the violence, never got the opportunity.
