The Sidebar: N.H. Delegation Calls For Release Of Woman Sentenced To Death In Sudan

All four members of New Hampshire’s congressional delegation are urging the U. S. government to secure the release of the pregnant wife of a Manchester man from a Sudanese prison.

Meriam Ibrahim Ishag, a 27-year-old physician who is eight months pregnant with her second child, was sentenced to death by hanging last week after a Sudanese court found her guilty of apostasy.

1st District Congressional Candidates Square Off

New Hampshire’s first district candidates for Congress battled Monday in a debate moderated by NHPR’s Laura Knoy. The topics for discussion stayed within the realm of economic policy and job creation and energy policy was among the stickier points.

Much of the debate between Congressman Frank Guinta and former Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter was an argument of who should and should not receive federal tax dollars. This was highlighted when the candidates were asked how they would address the rising cost of energy.

New Hampshire Congressional Delegation Reflects on Year

Congress broke a record this year, but hitting the lowest approval rating of all time isn’t what the region’s lawmakers had hoped to accomplish.

Correspondent Matt Laslo talked with the New Hampshire congressional delegation and has a look back at this year’s wild ride in Washington.

Republicans took over the lower chamber at the start of the year…hoping to drastically slash the federal debt. But it now sits at more than $15 trillion dollars.
